PH ARTICHOKE GLASS Pendant Lamp
72 leaves, zero glare β Henningsen's 1958 masterpiece
Originally designed for the Langelinie Pavillonen restaurant in Copenhagen in 1958, the PH Artichoke remains the most ambitious of Poul Henningsen's lighting work. Seventy-two precisely-positioned leaves arranged in twelve rows direct every photon downward without revealing the bulb β a feat of mathematical light control as much as a sculpture.
Light concept
Each of the 72 metal leaves serves as both reflector and shade. From every viewing angle, the bulb is concealed; from every direction, the lamp emits diffused glare-free illumination. The lamp is meant to be both source and centrepiece.
