Nicoline Tiziano Italian leather sofa

Nicoline Leather Grades and Prices Explained: Royal, Nevada, Nobile, Colorado, Diamond and Nabuk

Nicoline makes every sofa to order, and the leather you pick is the biggest single choice after the model and size. Nicoline groups its leathers into price categories: 2000, 3000, 4000 and 5000. This guide explains what each leather is, how they differ and what each category adds to the price, with real Hong Kong prices from our Nicoline collection.

Nicoline's six leathers at a glance

Leather Category Type Thickness Best for
Royal 2000 Corrected grain, natural grain look, protected, pigmented 1.6–1.8 mm Families, pets, busy living rooms
Nevada 2000 Semi-aniline, natural grain, protected with an anti-stain treatment about 0.9–1.3 mm A softer, more natural feel at the entry price
Nobile 3000 Top grain, corrected, embossed, protected, pigmented (European bull hide) 2.0–2.2 mm The thickest, hardest-wearing leather
Colorado 3000 Nubuck-effect leather with a hand-finished, vintage surface 1.3–1.5 mm A lived-in, vintage look
Diamond 4000 Full grain, smooth, lightly corrected, protected (European bovine) 1.3–1.5 mm A smooth, refined finish in a wide colour range
Nabuk 5000 Nubuck (3M-treated, European bovine) 1.2–1.4 mm The softest, velvety touch for quieter rooms

All six are bovine leathers, chrome-tanned. Royal and Nobile are coloured with water-based pigments; Nevada, Colorado, Diamond and Nabuk are drum-dyed with aniline dyes. Specifications are from Nicoline's own coverings catalogue.

What each leather is like

Royal (category 2000)

Royal is Nicoline's everyday leather: a corrected-grain bovine hide with a natural-looking grain and a pigmented, protected surface. It is even in colour, wipes clean easily and copes well with children, pets and Hong Kong's humidity. At 1.6–1.8 mm it is also one of the thicker leathers. If you are unsure, start here.

Nevada (category 2000)

Nevada is a semi-aniline leather: the colour goes through the hide, and a light protective layer with an anti-stain treatment sits on top. It feels softer and warmer than Royal and shows more natural character, at the same entry price. It is thinner (about 0.9–1.3 mm), so it suits people who want softness more than toughness.

Nobile (category 3000)

Nobile is made from European bull hide, the thickest leather in the range at 2.0–2.2 mm. It is a top-grain leather with an embossed, pigmented and protected surface. Choose it for a sofa that will take heavy daily use for many years.

Colorado (category 3000)

Colorado has a nubuck effect and a hand-finished surface with a vintage look. It suits relaxed, characterful interiors. Like other nubuck-style leathers it marks more easily than a pigmented leather, and the marks become part of its character.

Diamond (category 4000)

Diamond is a full-grain European bovine leather with a smooth, lightly corrected surface, protected and finished with vacuum drying. It has a refined, even look and the widest choice of colours, including bright shades.

Nabuk (category 5000)

Nabuk is a true nubuck, buffed to a velvety nap and treated with 3M protection. It is the most luxurious to touch and the most delicate. It suits a calm living room rather than a family sofa that gets heavy use.

How much does each leather category add?

The same sofa costs more as you move up the categories. Here is the Nicoline Tiziano 2-seater Maxi (195 cm) priced in each one, from Nicoline's price list at our standard Hong Kong rate:

Covering Tiziano 2-seater Maxi vs. category 2000
Fabric D HK$35,980 about 20% less
Fabric G HK$42,780 about 5% less
Leather 2000 (Royal, Nevada) HK$44,780 –
Leather 3000 (Nobile, Colorado) HK$52,380 about 17% more
Leather 4000 (Diamond) HK$63,480 about 42% more
Leather 5000 (Nabuk) HK$68,980 about 54% more

The steps are similar on other models. The Ghisolfa 2-seater Maxi (180 cm) is HK$67,880 in category 2000, HK$76,080 in 3000, HK$88,080 in 4000 and HK$94,080 in 5000. Every Nicoline sofa page shows its starting price in category 2000, and the 3D configurator on Tiziano, Wagner, Claire, Ghisolfa, Antares Leg and Cortina prices every leather for the exact layout you build.

Which leather should you choose?

  • Children, pets or a sofa used every day: Royal (2000) or Nobile (3000). Both are pigmented and protected, so spills wipe off.
  • Softness at the entry price: Nevada (2000).
  • A smooth, polished look or a bold colour: Diamond (4000).
  • A vintage, lived-in look: Colorado (3000).
  • The softest touch in a quiet room: Nabuk (5000).

Whatever you choose, the frame, foam and construction are the same. The category changes the leather and the price, not how the sofa is built.
