Poul Henningsen's 1958 reply to the bulb
Poul Henningsen designed the PH 5 in 1958 in direct response to the constantly changing shape, size and colour of the bulb. The three-shade system creates fully glare-free, downward-directed light — a design that turns the bulb into a non-issue regardless of what generation of light source is fitted today.
Light concept
Pyramidal three-shade system. Each shade is mathematically derived to direct light downward and onto adjacent surfaces while completely concealing the bulb from any viewing angle. The result is soft, warm, glare-free illumination suited to dining and living spaces.
Materials
- Shades: Spun aluminium, matt powder-coated (Classic White / Modern White) or wet-painted (Monochromes, Pastels, Hues Of finishes).
- Metals editions: Brass, copper or polished chrome. Brass and copper develop natural patina over time.
