Choosing a dining table in Hong Kong is a different challenge than anywhere else. Space is tight, expectations are high, and the table needs to work for everything from a Tuesday night dinner for two to a Saturday hot pot with eight.
We've helped thousands of Hong Kong families find the right dining table at our Causeway Bay showroom. Here's what we've learned.
Before you fall in love with a table, measure your space. In Hong Kong, most dining areas are between 8 and 15 square metres. That means every centimetre matters.
The golden rule: leave at least 80 cm between the table edge and the nearest wall or furniture. This gives enough room to pull out a chair comfortably.
Size guide for Hong Kong apartments:
Ceramic is the material of the moment. It's virtually scratch-proof, heat-resistant (you can put a hot pot directly on it), and stain-resistant. For Hong Kong families who love hot pot and Chinese cooking, ceramic is hard to beat.
Our top pick: The Cattelan Italia NAPOLEON Keramik is one of our best sellers. The ceramic top comes in stunning marble-effect finishes that look like natural stone but are far more practical. Also available as the NAPOLEON Keramik Premium with upgraded base options.
For a round option, the Cattelan Italia SKORPIO Keramik Premium Round combines a sculptural metal base with a durable ceramic top.
Nothing says luxury like real marble. It's a statement piece that elevates any dining room. The trade-off: marble needs more care — it can stain and scratch if you're not careful.
Our top pick: The Knoll Saarinen Round Marble Dining Table is an icon of modern design. Designed by Eero Saarinen in 1956, its single pedestal base means no table legs getting in the way — perfect for smaller spaces. Also available as the Saarinen Oval Marble for larger rooms.
Glass tables make a room feel more open and spacious — a real advantage in Hong Kong. Modern tempered glass is surprisingly tough and easy to clean.
Our top pick: The Cattelan Italia SKORPIO Crystalart features a printed glass top with artistic patterns, while the Cattelan Italia PREMIER Crystalart offers a more minimal look. Sovet also specialises in Italian glass tables with options like the Palace and Lambda Round.
Wood brings warmth and character. Danish designs in particular are known for exceptional wood craftsmanship that ages beautifully over decades.
Our top pick: The Carl Hansen CH327 Dining Table by Hans J. Wegner is a masterpiece of Danish design. Available in oak and walnut, it seats 6-10 people and features hidden extension leaves. For a larger gathering table, the Carl Hansen CH006 extends to seat up to 18 guests.
If your flat is under 700 sq ft, an extendable table is probably your best bet. Here are our favourites:

Round tables are ideal for Hong Kong apartments because they have no sharp corners (safer for kids), seat more people in less space, and encourage conversation.

Designer dining tables in Hong Kong typically range from HK$8,000 to HK$150,000+. Here's a rough guide:
A good dining table lasts 20-30 years. Spread over that time, even a HK$50,000 table costs less than HK$7 per day.
The best way to choose a dining table is to see it in person. Sit at it. Feel the surface. Check the height.
